      Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg \u00d3 Murch\u00fa, Gaelscoil na D\u00faglaise, Douglas was established in 1985 with 20 pupils as a result of a campaign launched by a group of parents and other interested parties. The school was named in honour of An tAthair Tadhg \u00f3 Murch\u00fa a cork priest who did much during his life to nurture the Irish language and culture.<\/p>\r\n

      The first Chairperson of Gaelscoil na D\u00faglaise was Seamus \u00d3 Riain, followed by Derek \u00d3\u2019 Nuallain until 1999. Derek was succeeded by \u00c1ine Bean Mhic She\u00e1in who was Chairperson until 2007.Tom\u00e1s Breathnach succeeded \u00c1ine until 2011 . Don Hegarty was Chairperson from 2011 - 2015. The present chairperson is Mr. James Lee. The first Principal, M\u00e1ire U\u00ed Chonghaile (currently a schools\u2019 inspector) was appointed in 1985. P\u00e1draig Mac Fhlannchadha (also a schools inspector now) took up the helm in 2000. He was succeeded by Niamh N\u00ed Mhaol\u00e1in in 2002. Niamh was appointed as Director of the Cork Education Support Centre in September 2015. Andrias \u00d3 Foghl\u00fa is the current Principal. The school has grown into a twenty four teacher school with over 400 pupils of nine different nationalities on roll.<\/p>\r\n

      The school was initially accommodated in rented rooms at Col\u00e1iste Mhuire, Douglas, residence of the Presentation Brothers. This is now Reeveswood. All in Gaelscoil na D\u00faglaise are much obliged to the Brothers for their support, friendship and co-operation during our years there.<\/p>\r\n

      As a result of much work and co-operation between management, teachers and parents, over the years we finally settled into our new school building which is situated off the South Link and the South Douglas Road. It was officially opened by Minister Michael Martin in 1996. This fine building has cost the Department of Education over a million pounds and comprised eight classrooms, a hall and ancillary rooms - staffroom, library\/resource room, secretary\u2019s office and principal\u2019s office. It was evident quite quickly that additional accommodation was needed to meet the demand for Irish medium education in the Douglas area. A further 8 classrooms and computer room were opened in 2004. Gaelscoil na D\u00faglaise has well and truly found its permanent home in the community of Douglas. Gaelscoil na D\u00faglaise celebrated 25 years in 2010-2011.
